Every year we make a bit of Cinsault to add to the spice box for our Pape Star blend. In a few vintages we love it enough to bottle it on its own. Cinsault is a large thin-skinned grape, not made for intensity of color or flavor. What it adds, it seems, is grace and energy to a blend. Open the bottle and you will sense this character – the wine presents with a lovely nose of baking spices and the promise of red fruits, on the palate lots of candied strawberry and plums and just the right amount of acidity. The wine is mouth coating without being cloying or heavy. The overall impression is one of liveliness and charm. It will make a perfect pairing with roasted or grilled meats.
